All You Should Know About The Tourist Places In Florence

Florence is a significant place of tourist attraction in the entire country of Italy though it is a relatively small town in size. It possesses a great historical past.

Every year millions of visitors come to Florence to view some of the world renowned renaissance sights, and to exhaust all the sightseeing scope in Florence would take days. Below we’ve mentioned just some of the best sightseeing spots that shouldn’t be missed in Florence.

The Uffizi Gallery is believed to be possibly the best renaissance art collection in the world. Florence is always considered as the cradle and spiritual home of the renaissance artistic movement, so there is no wonder that so many of the great renaissance works of art are still in Florence.

The buildings used by the gallery were once government office buildings that belonged to the local councils. No doubt, today the gallery serves the tourists better by way of showcasing the art pieces of what may be called Florentine in nature.

Although the Uffizi gallery exhibits an outstanding collection that belonged to the renaissance art period some of the works do date further back. It was the members from the De Medici family that donated several of the works of art with a condition that they remained in Florence.

Florence Cathedral provides an excellent example of 13th century Florentine architecture. The architect who started work on this cathedral in Florence was Arnolfo di Cambio, who was considered to be one of the best in his time.

The interior area of the Florence Cathedral measures 155×90 meters and hence it looks great. One has to pay a fee of 6 Euros to have panoramic view of the city of Florence by climbing the 414 steps of the bell tower.

Stained glass windows designed by Donatello and the frescoes that adorn the interior walls of the Cathedral are the two attractions of the Florence Cathedral.

Neptune’s Fountain can be seen in the main square in the centre of the ancient city of Florence. Aside from basking in the architecture of the fountain and the gushing fountain, Signoria square is a good place to take stock and perhaps relax for some time in between sightseeing.
