the long summer months
Having your vehicle inspected more than twice a year may seem excessive to some, but most agree that if you take the view that you can transport your family pleasure trip during the long summer months, it would be wise to let a professional to give their eyes on at least the main components such as brakes and steering.
The main points to consider are:
Engine: Oil should be changed regularly and the level of control to ensure adequate lubrication of the entire system. If left uncontrolled oil will deteriorate and you start your engine in the mud, so it is better to change between annual services. Another point of concern is the cooling system. The concentration of antifreeze not only stops the water from freezing in the engine, but actually acts as a coolant. Modern antifreeze rust inhibitors that help maintain special corrosion to begin within the system, it is essential that the correct level of antifreeze to water is maintained. The heater should be checked for leaks and all pipes and fittings in case of proof of loss. Just a point to note, if the engine is reduced more and more, never, never undo the cap, still warm. Allow to cool before you even look under the hood in case you end up blowing a tube and covered with boiling water! The error of other people do is fill a hot engine with cold water, NO! This causes a sudden drop in temperature, which in turn can break an engine!
Brakes: normally a reputable dealer will tell you if your pads will last until the next service, however, consider how many miles you have done since their last inspection, you have changed your daily commute to work and was driving in areas where there is more round than usual? All these points should be considered as they may increase brake wear.
Tires: Tires should be checked regularly, not only wear, but for the damage caused by nails, screws and stones, etc. The last thing you want a family holiday while its pouring down with Rain is that you have to empty the entire contents of the boot to access the spare tire!
Wash the screen: It sounds ridiculous, but that some drivers to lose control of their own risk. Top with a good additive for maximum cleaning. Walking in the dark with a layer of dust that the wipers can not move by themselves, not funny, and made even worse when a sudden downpour on the windshield becomes a translucent sheet of mud!
First aid kits and water: Make sure your vehicle contains a first aid kit and that the content is still valid. These kits contain plasters, bandages, etc., but consider embarking bite cream just in case. Bring water is a great idea, you do not know when or even how long you’ll be stuck in traffic highway. Dehydration causes headaches and drowsiness, so it pays to buy a bottle or two and keep them in the car at any time.
Other factors to consider: triangles torch, map, Sat Nav (Life Savers), layer visibility hello, money (for tolls, etc.), alerting, bulbs and fuses. All these elements will be useful at some point, but are often overlooked. Essentially its best to plan ahead for most eventualities, rather than the attitude of “good will” try to explain that in a thirst for six years who was sitting in traffic for three hours.
